Yaru layout issues on GNOME 48 (Debian 13) — anyone else?

Hi everyone,

I’m running Debian 13 with GNOME 48 and noticed some layout problems when using the Yaru theme.

  • Quick Settings tiles look misaligned compared to Adwaita.

  • Dialog buttons (like the “Keep these display settings?” dialog) don’t line up properly.

Adwaita looks fine, but Yaru feels broken here. I attached a couple of screenshots so you can see what I mean.

Is anyone else seeing this on non-Ubuntu systems with GNOME 48? And is there maybe a simple CSS tweak or workaround until this gets fixed upstream?

Thanks a lot!

I strongly recommend you ask this question on a Ubuntu or a Debian related forum. GNOME does not maintain Yaru, or support downstream themes.

Thanks for your reply.
The reason I’m trying to get Yaru working properly on Debian is that I’m maintaining a public guide for running GNOME on Raspberry Pi: https://forums.raspberrypi.com/viewtopic.php?t=373028#p2233233

Right now Raspberry Pi OS with GNOME is still based on Debian 12, but I want to prepare the guide for Debian 13 + GNOME 48.

So far I’ve found two issues that block a good user experience:

  • Geary (visibility of unread gitlab gnome #1681, as I also reported separately)

  • Yaru (i have reported related Yaru layout glitches here in github ubuntu yaru issues #4286)

That’s why I raised the question — so the guide can be ready for users once Debian 13 GNOME is officially out.

Debian 13 was released August 9.

The Debian tracking bug for the Yaru theme issue is https://bugs.debian.org/1100949 . The theme just needs to be updated in Debian.
