Hello,
I’ve been a Meld software user for many years now. Thank you very much for making this tool available. Sorry if I’m posting in the wrong place. Is a new update of Meld software planned for Windows ? If so, when is it expected ? Thanks again and best of luck. Patrick.
Hi and welcome to the forum! It’s absolutely the best place to ask. While I’m not a Meld contributor nor developer, I think it’s safe to assume new release is gonna happen when gtk4 port will be finished. That can take a while tho.
I see there is a 3.23.1 available at 3.23.1 · GNOME / meld · GitLab
There are no prebuilt installers though, just source. Is there somewhere the 3.23.1 MSI file can be found?
It’s a real shame, it’s a tool I really appreciate. The latest (stable) release of Meld for Windows seems to be version 3.22.2 from March 24, 2024. That’s starting to get a bit old now. One might even wonder if the project (for Windows) is still active or if it’s been abandoned.
In the 3.22/23 series the Windows build had to be replaced wholesale because of a somewhat-forced transition from cx_Freeze to pyinstaller.
A 3.24.0 release is upcoming, but in the meantime you can get development series 3.23.x windows installers from the Gitlab main pipeline artifacts. As of right now, I think Pipeline #1044368 · GNOME / meld · GitLab is the latest and best I know the Windows installer should work. If not then please report back!
