I get thumbnails only sporadically… sometimes only after I’ve opened an image. Why is this not consistent? What can I do to always get thumbnails?
I have the thumbnail setting at the default “this device only”.
(Also, side question, why is there not slider to change the thumbnail size on files?)
What distro are you using? This is caused by not having thumbnailers installed
You need to click the dropdown icon on top right (next to close button

I’m using Nobara. I noticed that in the Files app, there’s an icon next to the search icon which apparently should no be there (looks like a crosshair, but it’s a part of several distros I’ve seen) so I’ll ask if they can do anything about these issues, but I think they get it unmodified from Fedora (which might have modified it).
Can you try sudo dnf install glycin-thumbnailer ?
Also, can you send a screenshot of how it looks like?

Thank you, that seems to have fixed it!
Here’s the icon in question (on a different distribution compared to Nobara, but it’s the same there):

Huh, i actually dont know what the button does. Normal Files do not have it and Fedora doesnt modify it.

Thanks, I forgot to mention that I found that (although those buttons are weirdly small , even though I use display scaling).
Also, this was the patch which introduced that weird button, which is apparently obsolete now and that’s why it doesn’t work.
