Virtual Desktops with Multiple Monitors

I’ve been wishing for this kind of feature for years.

I use my laptop docked with multiple monitors when I’m at home or in the office… but frequently I need to disconnect.

This causes all of my windows on my other monitors to kinda crash over to my 1 laptop screen. They do seem to restore nicely when I get my screens back but it’s still quite disorienting.

I’d love for the ability to have my lost monitor desktops be virtualized when the monitor is lost, inserting them into the “line” as if they had never really left.

So while navigating (right) over my virtual desktops gets me today:
M:monitor V:virtual desktop
M1V1M2V1 → M1V2M2V2

What I’d like to be able to do if I lose monitor 2:
M1V1 → M2V1 → M1V2 → M2V2

Is there a place to propose this as a new feature? Is anyone else interested in this behavior?

From my perspective as a simple user, this seems quite sensible. Wouldnt mind that behavior.

As for a good place to propose this:
For new design ideas, there exists a repository on the GNOME GitLab instance:

Thanks! I’ll give that a try.
