Using the BIMP plug-in How to select the "merge down" option (and then select next layer down)

I feel like this is one of those questions where either I’m super blind and it was right in front of me the entire time or it’s just a huge oversight…
But is there an option using the BIMP plug-in to Simply perform a “merge down” and a side question if the merge Down is possible how do I select the next layer down for editing .
