Question: I can’t set a user avatar in the user section. This seems like a serious bug to me. When will this be fixed? Use Arch with Gnome. GNOME 50.3
We usually don’t monitor Discourse for bug reports as frequently as Work items · GNOME / Settings · GitLab, so please, file an issue there.
I will take a look into debugging and fixing this for 50.4.
Did you update accountsservice to 26.27.3-1? Have you rebooted since? It works for me on Arch Linux since that update. It did not work before with GNOME 50.
Run gnome-control-center --verbose users from a terminal to open the Users panel. Then try selecting an avatar there. See if the terminal output provides any clue why it doesn’t work.
Good afternoon. Everything started working right after updating the account service. I set up my avatar without any magic. Thank you. Now I have a different problem. Video thumbnails stopped displaying in format MKV. I was on KDE before. And then I installed GNOME. The working environment version was updated and this problem occurred.

It’s best to search or ask in the Arch Linux support channels first, when having a problem on Arch Linux. The MKV problem was already know there, including the workaround while waiting for a gst-thumbnailers update from upstream: mkv thumbnails not showing in Nautilus / Applications & Desktop Environments / Arch Linux Forums
There’s no such problem on KDE. And it’s still the same Arch.

It doesn’t really matter if you updated GNOME: the spinning cursor is part of the startup protocol, and the only thing that can stop it is the application completing the handshake, to tell the shell that it has launched. If the application doesn’t do that, the shell has a timeout.
I’ll ask this question on the Arch Linux support site; something’s wrong with Wayland. Either Chrome itself can’t fully communicate with Wayland, or Arch Linux has trouble. Thanks anyway.

Yes, I already Googled it. I know how it works. I found a solution: disable startup notifications in the Chrome app settings. But with every Chrome update, I have to do it all over again.

Looks like Chromium fixed it last month: https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/chromium/src/+/7922631. I don’t see it in 150.0.7871.114 on Arch Linux yet. IDK how Chromium releases work, or Google Chrome releases, might take some time to arrive.
An app not adhering to the standard is a bug in that app. GNOME shows these bugs, KDE hides them. There’s something to say for either approach but you coming from KDE yes GNOME does it differently than KDE.
