The new documentation vs. the old documentation

Yes, the GLib API reference is not great because—and I am utterly tired of repeating this point—the reference is still written for gtk-doc. We are in the process of porting GLib’s documentation to gi-docgen (alongside a bunch of work to merge parts of the introspection API into the project) so you will have to wait for a bit until the situation improves.

Having more indices for families of operations is planned, but it’s not going to magically appear out of thin air until the reference gets fully ported.

It was announced in November’s TWiG, but it was in the middle of another block of changes so it’s easy to miss.

IMO only sometimes and only if it has lots of tests so later contributors can confidently make changes. Something that is too complicated and has little/no tests is a very bad combination.
