Hi there,
I just wanted to make a quick suggestion: although I know that GNOME aims to be minimalist and only include the essentials, I think adding this feature would greatly improve accessibility, especially on a big monitor.
The aim is to achieve the same ‘wiggle effect’ as on a Mac or KDE. I know there’s an extension for that, but I’m sure many users have lost track of their pointer and started wiggling it to find it again. A feature like that would address this issue, particularly for people with eyesight problems.
I’m open to suggestions or any clarification. Thanks for your time!
Yes, I was aware of it, but besides having a terrible implementation of this feature, I think an accessibility addition should be part of GNOME’s core, not on the extensions side.
Maybe even disabled by default so only those who need it can activate it; I find it more useful than the current Ctrl to highlight the cursor.
Yes, this would be better as a native accessibility feature. This is standard out of the box behavior on macOS, and KDE Plasma also natively supports it, maybe even OOTB too.
It’s a very nice way for people to find their pointer once it’s been lost, and can really come in handy, especially on multi-monitor setups, or on hi-DPI monitors where the user might typically prefer a small cursor.
The ubiquity of this feature among modern desktops, and its simplicity would lend itself well to a modern desktop such as GNOME. We shouldn’t need an extension to do this, IMO.
For what i saw the animations are pretty static (it feels like a little laggy) maybe it’s only on my machine. But I didn’t want to blame the developer of wiggle instead i would polish their exstension and make part of core gnome accessibility
The extension looks acceptably good for me. One slight issue is that it doesn’t support magnifying custom cursors (instead, it magnifies the default one). Animations are pretty basic (it just magnifies the cursor from a central point)
