I have been trying to clean up my overgrown photo library. I was selecting images in Shotwell and deleting. After a while I thought I better check, I had two photos from the same day. I deleted one and right clicked the other to ‘open in folder’. That folder still contained the other one I deleted in Shotwell. Does this mean I can’t delete the actual source file from folders when deleting in Shotwell?
If so, is there a way to make this work? I can’t imagine the pain of deleting by going through hundreds of folders, many of which only have one image in!
Hi, thanks for replying. Sorry I didn’t understand your reply.
I am asking if I can delete images in Shotwell and make it so that the actual files are deleted when I do that. I think you’re saying I can’t do that, but not sure what you mean about trash. IF it’s the case that deleting images in Shotwell can MOVE the files in the folders to system trash, that certainly could be a lot nicer than opening the folder for each of thousands of images and deleting there! Could you please clarify what you mean as this could be a good workaround for me.
Yes. Either Pressing Shift-DEL will give you a dialog where you can chose to move the files into system trash, or, if you just pressed DEL in Shotwell, deleting the Files in the “Trash” section of Shotwell will ask you the same
I just tested it. Shift Delete actually moves the file from folders to trash. That’s exactly what I was after from the start. I shouldn’t have said ‘Delete’, I should have said ‘trash’.
