Screen recording outdated info in help.gnome.org

I can start recording but with ctrl+alt+shift+R recording does not stop. Is the documentation wrong?

so yeah, that text is wrong. Is there way to suggest a change?

Sadly, the state of user help docs in GNOME in general is bad.

You can read a bit more here: Updates from the release team

The problem is not with the text itself, the text was changed around the time the behavior was changed. The problem is that the online version is not getting updated. If you look at installed help you should see the current version of the text: yelp help:gnome-help/screen-shot-record.

For reference, the above command shows the following info.

Your image doesn’t want to render for me. Weird.

Because https://gitlab.gnome.org is down.

See Impossible to stop screencast recording via keyboard shortcut (#5386) · Issues · GNOME / gnome-shell · GitLab for the issue in gnome-shell.

No, the user docs aren’t that wrong. The web hosting of the user docs should simply be killed so people don’t run into ancient incorrect docs but that’s nothing the Docs people can do.

I’m a little confused now. Isn’t help.gnome.org the official help site?

Yes, but it’s a snapshot because the underlying infrastructure is unmaintained and hasn’t been updated in years.

There is a replacement: Learn GNOME

The corresponding help page is: Screenshots and screencasts

The replacement is, unfortunately, incomplete: Make the new help website official (#12) · Issues · Teams / Websites / help.gnome.org WIP · GitLab

Seriously? (retorical)

But thanks a lot. I’ll stick to deepseek for help on gnome…
