Rounded corners Desktop wide

It would be nice if we can get rounded corners for app for consistency. Please add this feature really would make the desktop even more elegant.

It would be a lot less nice to cut out content or controls from window corners, which is why this hasn’t been done.

This expension is working great but UI of apps are not perfect. Content cutting I havnt noticed hope will get rounded corners soon

The extension will probably remain your best solution.

While content cutting is rare, it can’t be ruled out for certain. Which is why the policy is to leave it up for developers to opt-in, by implementing it in their application. Because only the developers can definitely ensure no content is cut from a rounded corner.

This has been a longstanding policy. If it can’t be reliably ensured through a standard, it is in the discretion of the developers of the applications.
It was the same with dark mode or accent colors, its the same for rounded corners.

oh okay using extension but wish 1st party solution will be better

As problems only occure in rare cases it would be nice, if one could opt out for those applications in the settings.

Requiring users to click a setting to unbreak something is not how we design things in GNOME.

Yeah that’s why asking for 1st party solution. Gnome takes consistency seriously so asking if they can implement it. Also 1st party solution will be much more refined than an extension

The first party solution is “get developers to opt-in to rounded corners in their software”.

Rounding everything could cut something off. And maintaining a list of applications were rounding could cut of content to excempt them from rounding is a workaround that neither is elegant nor scales well.

Pretty much every modern application designed for GNOME has rounded corners already due to them using libadwaita.
For the other applications it is at their discretion, as they might have their reasons for supporting it or not.

If you want more rounded corners without an extension, I’d recommend to reach out to the developers of the application and discuss if they would like to support it.

Gnome takes consistency seriously

Yes, for GNOME apps.

If an app does not have rounded corners, it uses a different platform library, and likely a different toolkit. It probably uses a different design language.

You cannot possibly look at those two windows and say:

“Gosh, if only Dolphin had rounded corners, I couldn’t tell it’s not a GNOME app”
