Hi GNOME Community,
I am writing to advocate for the inclusion of two essential Sindhi keyboard layouts in the GNOME desktop environment. Sindhi is a language spoken by over 30 million people, and currently, many users find it difficult to set up their input methods on Linux.
To make GNOME more accessible to the Sindhi community, we request the integration of these two standardized layouts:
- Sindhila Standard Layout: Developed by the Sindhi Language Authority.
Reference: SLA_Keyboard - Bhurgri Phonetic Layout: The most widely used layout for professional and personal use.
Reference: MB_Keyboard Layout For Sindhi Language
The Goal: Currently, users often have to manually configure these. Having them available by default in the Region & Language settings would be a major “killer feature” for our community and would drive significant adoption of GNOME in the Sindh region and among the diaspora.
Technical Note: These layouts follow the Arabic-based Sindhi script. I can provide further technical details or keymaps if the developers need assistance in creating the XKB or IBus definitions.
Thank you for your hard work on making GNOME a truly global desktop!
Best regards,
Naeem Ur Rahman Pechuho, Sindhi Language Open Source Initiative
