my ptyxis is rendering ncurses screens wrong.

i tried all GSK backends (cairo, opengl, gl, vulkan), no difference on text rendering.
gnome-console (which should be using libvte-2.91-gtk4-0, too) does render correctly, tho.
what can i do to further diagnostic the problem?
it feels like a glyph metrics problem to me, but i have no clue about what can i do next.
