Through certain extensions (such as Rounded Window Corners), it is possible to achieve rounded corners in GNOME. However, most of these extensions are developed by individuals, and their development often fails to keep pace with system updates, leading to constant compatibility issues.
I have previously discussed this with GNOME developers and was told that they cannot force applications to use rounded corners because it might cause display issues. However, I would like to make two points:
Feasibility: From what I have observed, even when rounded corners are forced, 99% of applications show no UI issues at all. While this might be a point of contention, it suggests that the approach is technically viable in practice.
User Choice vs. Developer Intent: There seems to be high demand among users for rounded corners, yet we must also respect the developers’ original design intent. Therefore, could a future version of GNOME include a native setting/toggle that gives users the right to choose whether to enable rounded corners?
By making this a built-in option, we could resolve the compatibility headaches caused by extensions while respecting both user preference and system stability.
