Option to install updates without a reboot

I understand the implications of upgrading packages while running the desktop, but I wish there was a way (besides dnf upgrade) to take the risk and tell GNOME Software to install them right away.

KDE’s Discover lets you choose which behavior to use: reboot to install (default), or install immediately.

No, gnome-software is not going to let you shoot yourself in the foot like that. You are welcome to use dnf on the terminal if you wish to do that.

Packaging formats which can support updates without a reboot (such as flatpak) are already supported in gnome-software.

It’s okay. I’ll try to get used to it.

Because I use disk encryption, the two reboots required can be annoying. It usually goes like this: reboot, decrypt disk with passphrase, updates are installed, automatic reboot, decrypt disk again, log in to desktop.

It’s probably easier to do this on shutdown (e.g. before going to bed), so I only have to decrypt once.

I feel you. For a standard update routine it’s 3 restarts for me. It’s a bit annoying.
