I am planning to write a complex Nautilus extension. Since Nautilus still uses the GTK3, at the moment I would have to write complex code for GTK3 knowing that it will require a port to GTK4 later.
It might seem like a silly thing to ask (things are ready when they are ready), but is there any planned release date for the GTK4 port of Nautilus?
It’s not silly at all, actually it’s a smart thing to ask, considering that extensions must link to the same GTK version as the application.
There is an active effort to port this app to GTK 4 in time for the GNOME 42 release, due next march. Worst case scenario it gets postponed to the 43 release due next september.
