Lack of Non-Contiginous Fill

I’ve recently been questioning the lack of a Non-contiguous fill option in GIMP (The Fill tool not being restricted by other bordering colors when being used to change the color of an area). It seems to be a standard option for most programs like it, so it is a very strange omission.
Right now the only method I know of for achieving this same effect is a bit un-intuitive

  • using Select by Color
  • switching to Bucket Fill tool w/ Fill whole selection on and filling in the desired pixels that way
  • repeating the above steps every time the user wants to replace all instances of a color on the canvas.
Is there an easier way to achieve this, or is it a feature already being looked into?

There are couple options in the colors->map submenus that will allow you to replace an specific color for another without even doing the selection.

Otherwise, select by color, and once the selection is in place, just clik on your desired color and drag it to the canvas, no need to use the bucket fill tool.
