I’m investigating migration options from EWS to Microsoft Graph due to the announced Exchange Online EWS retirement.
I’m running:
- Fedora 44
- Evolution 3.60.2
- evolution-ews 3.60.2
I found several discussions mentioning that Microsoft 365 (Graph API) support was enabled in preview mode and I also found recent work items tagged with “m365”.
However, I’m unable to determine whether the Microsoft 365 account type should be available by default in Fedora builds.
Questions:

Is Microsoft 365 (Graph API) expected to be available in Evolution 3.60.x?
2. If yes, is there any runtime setting, package dependency or GNOME Online Accounts integration required to enable it?
3. Is GNOME Online Accounts currently the recommended approach for Microsoft 365 / Graph accounts?
My goal is to evaluate whether Evolution users can migrate from EWS to Graph before the Exchange Online EWS retirement.

the “preview mode” was in time of 3.52/3.56.x series (I do not recall
when precisely, but surely few years ago). Since then many main pain
points had been fixed.
You install evolution-ews, which adds you both “Exchange Web Services”
and “Microsoft 365” account options when creating a new mail account.
You use the later, as you could guess.
The protocols are different and the feature parity is not complete,
thus expect some changes in the behavior.
While you can use GNOME Online Accounts, I think it’s easier to create
the account directly in Evolution.

Understood!! I could setup in here by using GRAPH and I may see my emails normally. I understood the features parity are not complete yet. In that case we are facing problem yet when it comes to “shared stuffs”, for example:
Shared and delegated resources(e.g: shared calendars)
Public folders and Online Archive
Global Address list
With that, is there any advance with these items mentioned above ?

Hi,
please understand the feature parity is missing on the protocol level
side, not on the evolutione-ews side, in many cases. The evolution-ews
cannot do something what the Microsoft Graph API does not allow.
Shared and delegated resources(e.g: shared calendars)
If I recall correctly, if you add the shared calendar into the list of
the calendars in the Outlook Web Application (OWA), aka https://outlook.office365.com/calendar/
then it’ll show up in the Evolution the next time the list of the
configured calendars is refreshed, which you can force by going to the
Evolution’s Calendar view, right click the Microsoft 365 account name
and picking “Refresh list of account calendars” from the context menu.
It takes a bit of time to refresh them, it’s not instant. I think one
user reported recently that he had the calendar added, but it was not
visible. Removing it in the OWA and adding again fixed the problem
(possibly stale data on the server, but I’ve no proof for that).
Public folders and Online Archive
That’s partly related to the shared stuff (the previous point). I’m not
sure what you mean with the “Online Archive” though. There are things
to be done on the evolution-ews side tracked here:
Global Address list
There is no such thing in the Microsoft Graph API, they dropped it. The
apps are supposed to get the information from multiple separate address
books. That’s why you see “so many” of them in the Contacts view of the
Evolution.
If you’ll find some feature missing, it’s better to fill a bug for it,
in the GNOME / evolution-ews · GitLab , because it’s
much easier to track user requests there than in various places like
GNOME’s Discourse or the mailing lists. The later are good for initial
discussion and general support or problem solving.
