Installed gimp appimage. Getting Failed to register AppImage in system via libappimage

Hi, I had a link to get here from gimp.org. I want to upgrade to gimp 3.0.4. I’ve always used apt, but now my only choice is appimage and flatpak.
On appimage I get error Failed to register AppImage in system via libappimage

I have lots of appimages. The rest of them work. I don’t understand why not this one.
Thank you in advance for any help,
Joe

That 3P software is pretty problematic. For example: Error launching GIMP 3.0.0 · Issue #697 · TheAssassin/AppImageLauncher · GitHub

It also seems to be unmaintained. The main developer usally recommends to updating to the alpha version

Sorry, but what is 3P? What is alpha version? What is unmaintained, Gimp 3.0.4? I looked at the link you referenced, I don’t see an actionable item there for me.

what is 3P = 3rd party
What is alpha version? = A very early development version
What is unmaintained, Gimp 3.0.4? = No, AppImage Launcher
unmaintained means there is nobody who cares for the software in question.

“I don’t see an actionable item there for me”
Someone advised to uninstall AppImageLauncher in that thread.

Honestly … that’s not really necessary to run AppImages.

Can’t help for the AppImage but you can use APT, using this launchpad: GIMP 3.0 : Panda Jim.

Yeah, sorry by the overly technical response. @nelo summarized well what I was trying to say. That tool is not part of AppImage standard, it is optional and can or not cause problems. We had two previous reports about appimagelauncher on GIMP tracker and we could not do nothing

Thank you everyone for the help. I did use the apt respository and it let me install the newest Gimp. I don’t know why the Gimp download page only offers Flatpak (which I had issues using too) and appImage - especially since my prior version of Gimp was through Apt. Still on my learning curve.

Because we don’t have other packages. No serious software offers links to downstream packages (the ones from distros, random ppas etc) since the developers of the software don’t have control about them.
