Huion Kamvas 16 (2021) stylus misinterpreted as a tablet in the settings app

Hello.

I am unsure if this is a bug with the settings app or libinput but I suppose asking here first wouldn’t hurt.

The stylus from my drawing tablet, a Huion Kamvas 16 (2021), get mistakenly labeled as a tablet (see image below), meaning I cannot configure the pen (I would like to swap secondary and third clicks).

This seems to be some kind of regression, as when I first got the tablet in October of 2024, I remember being able to change the settings just fine. I am unsure when this change happened.

The pen works perfectly, including pressure sensitivity and tilt, I just cannot change its configuration.

I am using Fedora Silverblue 42 with the latest libinput version as of now (1.29.0).

Here’s the stylus’ entry in libinput list-devices:

Device: HUION Huion Tablet_GS1562 Stylus
Kernel: /dev/input/event8

Size: 160x100mm

And here’s how it looks like in the settings app:

In libinput parlance: tablet is the device you plugin in and the thing you use on it is a tablet tool. You cannot have a tool without a tablet but tools only exist once they’ve been in proximity.

So the above output with Capabilities: tablet seems correct and the stylus configuration should show up once you bring the stylus into proximity within the GNOME Settings panel (wayland restriction).

My bulgarian (??) is nonexistent but I’m guessing the line under the title says “click here for more info” and you should click it  that tablet isn’t correctly recognised by libwacom which means some settings will be missing → please file an issue in libwacom so we can fix that bit.

Ah.

Yes, I never actually hovered the pen over the settings window. I did as you said, and there it is:

Thank you.

Still, there are multiple entries for the same tablet, should I open an issue in the libwacom page? Everything seems to work correctly, including my ability to map the keys and calibrate it.

Yeah, best to open an issue, I don’t track these forums here much. It’s a Huion device so it may get closed again with cantfix though - those devices have been nothing but a PITA over the years.
