Hello! You should compile with a non-standard prefix (for example, /opt/devel) by invoking Meson with
meson --prefix=/opt/devel
Then compile and install (meson install). To launch applications with the compiled libgtk, set the LD_PRELOAD environment variable accordingly:
LD_PRELOAD=/opt/devel/lib/libgtk-4.so ./path/to/application
If you want to automate all that then consider using jhbuild or the nightly Flatpak runtime.
