How to decide if a setting parameter is added in gnome-control-center or in Gnome Tweaks?

Hi,

I look for a documentation, a guideline about the relation between gnome-control-center and Gnome Tweaks, specifically: how to decide if a setting parameter is added in gnome-control-center or in Gnome Tweaks?

I looked :

  • in https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/blob/master/README.md
  • and in https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-tweaks/-/blob/master/README.md

but I haven’t found anything :pensive:

Other question: what do you think to add this guideline in this README files? If you think that this is a good idea, maybe I can create two issues in https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues and https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-tweaks/-/issues ?

Without answers since 4 days, I have decided to post my question here: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-tweaks/-/issues/346

From how I understand, Tweaks isn’t actively maintained and its relevant options will (eventually) be moved over to g-c-c.

Relevant: https://gitlab.gnome.org/Teams/Design/initiatives/-/issues/52

It’s not like you are owed an answer, and opening issues isn’t really nice.

If you want to chat with the GNOME Control Center maintainers, or the Design team, I’d recommend joining the IRC for either:

  • #control-center for gnome-control-center
  • #gnome-design for the design team

@stephane-klein: Just to clarify on what @ebassi meant here. Opening issues are welcome. Just your doubts / questions don’t qualify as issues for the dev team. They just need to be clarified and resolved here or in IRC / chatrooms.

That does happens sometimes to some questions. You just need to be a little patient, or you can ping the maintainers directly as ebassi pointed out.

To answer you original question, GNOME Tweaks doesn’t have a lot of options. You play around mostly with few of them. So, I mostly remember what is covered in Tweaks. Rest is in GNOME control center.

Thanks!
