How can I reduce notification pop-up size without changing display scaling?

The notification pop-ups are too large on my screen, but I don’t want to change the system-wide display scaling just for that.

Is there any way to reduce the size of these on-screen display (OSD) notifications specifically?

If you know CSS, you can use the user-theme extension and put some customizations in ~/.local/share/themes/THEMENAME/gnome-shell/gnome-shell.css. That allows you to change the font size or height and width of specific elements.
