Gnome stuck in grayscale mode Fedora 42

Yesterday the desktop was flickering and after pulling and display port cable and reinserting cable the desktop is now stuck in grayscale mode. All searching which finds mostly out dated old references we have found no solution for fixing this issue. The extension for grayscale is not installed.

Attemps:

  • dconf reset -f /org/gnome; did nothing
  • gnome-tweaks; had no relevant settings
  • dconf-editor; had no relevant settings

Can we use gsettings to fix this issue. If so what would be the commands to use?

Hi, did you tried looking into Wellbeing settings in Settings app?

We did; under Screen Limits the Grayscale option was turned on but inactive because the Screen Time Limit was not on. We changed that and then turned off the Grayscale option. We then disabled the whole wellbeing. Logged off and back on with no change to the issue.

We have now checked three other systems and they have the same issue. It’s not connected to a user.

The issue is now solved. We found that the Viewsonic monitor somehow went into mono mode we suspect from the power being turn off and on for the display port switch that the four systems are connected through. We have spent quite a few hours figuring this one out.

Glady you figured it out. That would have taken anyone forever to check, definitely not obvious.
