Gnome Disks GTK4 port

Why Gnome Disks is still not ported to GTK4? (I mean as stable, finished GTK4 port)

It has version 47 alpha so port was started in Gnome 47 development and now we almost have Gnome 50 and it’s still not ported??? It’s an abstraction, bad abstraction.

It’s probably last core app that it’s important and not ported to GTK4 what makes Gnome Desktop not fully consistent.

I will be very happy if GTK4 port will arrive in stable Gnome 50 but are any chances for that?

GTK4 port looks awesome in Gnome nightly and I want to finally see it in stable version in many distributions. Ubuntu 26.04 LTS - very popular distribution used by many people - is coming and if Disks will not be ported in Gnome 50 then Ubuntu LTS users will need to wait another 2 years for that and another Ubuntu LTS will not be fully consistent.

Is there a way to fund developers to deal with specific issues? What would your budget be, @Programejt ?

I don’t know man. I’m not GTK, C etc. programmer. There are still some issues but then from what I see is that devs try to make new features along with porting UI to GTK4+libadwaita.

I thought that they port only UI to GTK4+libadwaita first with only backend adoption to that when needed, without adding at that time new features that can increase time of porting.
After stable version of GTK4+libadwaita port that would have the same features as current stable 46.1, they could add new features in another versions. But that’s only what it seems to me.

As far as I can tell, gnome-disk-utility is developed by volunteers. Users don’t have a contract to tell the developers what to do.

But since it’s FLOSS, you can reach out to one of the consultancy companies that contribute to GNOME, if you’re willing to disburse a certain budget.
