GNOME Calendar takes a step further with “artificial intelligence” (AI) contributions

A few months ago, after reading Loupe no longer allows generative AI contributions , GNOME Calendar also implemented a no-LLM statement, per " contributing: Link to CoC and add no-LLM statement (!725) · Merge requests · GNOME / gnome-calendar · GitLab ".

Recently, we’ve received several large merge requests that were clearly generated:

(All three merge requests have since been deleted and removed, thus no longer work.)

We’ve now introduced a new label for these kinds of contributions in Calendar: “Probabilistically Automated”, which reads as follows:

Major or total reliance on artificial “intelligence” to generate code. Usually accompanied by a lack of proper testing, and finalizing patches based on theoretical intended behavior rather than correctness of code.

While we continue to allow contributions that use AI to answer questions and find information, strongly discourage it for ethical reasons despite us knowing the appeal. However, we will not tolerate generating patches using AI.
