Geary - Check your sending server details - can't connect to SMTP

When trying to connect to my mail server I get the message Account not created: Check your sending server details

I wrote a bug report and someone directed me here.
Is there a way I can get clearer info from Geary about why it wont connect? Thunderbird and Evolution both send mails on this server fine.

–debug gives this:
[deb] 20:03:51.0447 geary:accounts-editor-add-pane.vala:214: Validating SMTP... No one has any suggestions? I can just use Evolution but the mobile version of Geary looks better
