Frustrating UI 'Change Background...': impossible to revert to the current custom background

Every new Fedora ships with the fresh Gnome version. Every new Gnome usually ships with a set of new background images that I would be more than happy to try. Normally, it is done via Settings → Appearance, or from the context menu on the desktop ‘Change Background…’

Unfortunately, it’s impossible to try new background images without loosing the current image. It’s simply impossible to revert because currently selected image is not listed and I have no idea where the corresponding image file is stored.

I was trying to Google where Gnome stores the custom background images selected yet in previous Fedora versions, without success. Apparently, it should be in ~/.local/share/backgrounds. But this directory is empty in my case.

Is it possible to list currently selected background image in the selection list of background images in Settings → Appearance? Or, at least, can someone enlighten me on where to look for the image file of the currently set background image to add that picture manually?

You can find previous backgrounds by looking through older branches here:

It’s good to know we can find previous Gnome background images somewhere in the repository. However, this is not the point. First, a user may have a custom background. And while selected and actually installed and used, it is not listed in the available backgrounds list. So, one cannot return to it after changing the background to something from the list. Second, the installed image does exist in user’s machine. It is used, however not listed. Why does he need to try to remember the file name, or even go to the Gnome repo to recover the file that actually exists in his system? Just show him the file currently selected as a background in the list of available backgrounds, so he could return to it after trying any other.
