Hi all — I’ve been building Frost, a frosted-glass icon theme for GNOME, and it’s now public (MIT): GitHub - thissayantan/frost-icon-theme: Frosted-glass icon theme for Linux — folders, apps, 134 file types and top-bar status icons · GitHub . Store page: Making sure you're not a bot!
It covers folders and places, 31 core apps, top-bar status icons, and 134 file types. Colour tells the kind of file and, from 48 px, a small type label (JSON, MD, PEM, LOCK, GO) tells the exact type. Small sizes are hand-drawn on the pixel grid at 16/22/24 px. No brand logos are redrawn — Papirus is the fallback for everything Frost doesn’t draw.
While drawing the file types I hit some stock shared-mime-info results that surprised me on a developer machine (Ubuntu 26.04, GNOME 50): .ts is typed as text/vnd.trolltech.linguist (Qt translation) rather than TypeScript; .tsx as application/x-tiled-tsx (a Tiled tileset); go.mod as audio/x-mod (a tracker music module); .tf and go.sum as text/x-todo-txt; and .key as Keynote even when the file starts with BEGIN PRIVATE KEY.
Frost ships an optional per-user MIME package for those, but I’d be happy to file upstream issues if that’s useful — is shared-mime-info still the right place? Feedback and icon requests very welcome.
