Feature Request: Per-Screen Wallpaper and Enhanced Slideshow Support

I understand this feature may not be high on the GNOME roadmap, especially since it’s been requested for many years. However, I believe improving GNOME’s wallpaper management would significantly enhance the user experience, particularly for users with multi-monitor setups.

Currently, GNOME does not support setting different wallpapers for each screen. With the increasing number of users adopting dual or multi-monitor configurations, this limitation becomes more noticeable. In comparison:

  • Windows allows users to create wallpaper slideshows from a selected folder.
  • KDE Plasma supports assigning different directories—and thus different slideshows—to individual monitors.

Although some GNOME extensions provide slideshow functionality, they typically mirror the same image across all screens, which limits personalization.

Implementing native support for per-screen wallpaper settings and independent slideshows would be a much-appreciated quality-of-life improvement.

Thank you for considering this request.
