      • What should we post
      • How should we write it (tone, message etc things like that)
      • Should Mastodon and Bluesky have different tone and overall content?
    • Potentially try to look/think about looking for more people to draft content
    • Discuss “Why should people donate to us” draft post
    • Decide what to do with Builder docs draft post, since Cassidy doesn’t reply to pings
    • Discuss what to do with extensions draft post
    • Discuss whether we should do some posts communicating primary clipboard situation
    • Bonus topic if we have time: which category should Engagement Team live under in Discourse – Community or Teams? (not very important topic, we can skip this)

Notes

  • Presentation from Paul
    • What is the goal of social media presence? Fundraising? Increasing number of users? It would be good to write these down - helps with design of posts, planning activity, assessing performance, etc.
      • Feels that the focus might be lacking
        1. Suggestion for a goal: “correcting” GNOME’s reputation. Example: they had a series of posts which countered FUD. Has been successful.
        2. Another suggestion: increase fundraising - number of supporting members, number of dollars (ideally we should have a specific goal).
        • Two separate campaigns: end of year fundraising, a separate “membership drive” (increasing number of recurring donors).
      • Donation popup needs to be shown in December if it’s going to be successful
  • Daniel: potential to do fundraising through the GNOME Latam community - hasn’t been a focus so far
  • Daniel has been doing data analysis on our Mastodon posts
    • Most engagement is between 1400-1600 on Wednesdays. We need to post at other times, but if we want to get the message out, that’s when to do it.
    • Hashtags are useful for data analysis. Don’t want to use too many though - 3 or 4, not 12.
    • The data is shared in Nextcloud with Allan; he can share more widely. More analysis is coming.
    • Matamo shows that Reddit is a big source of traffic
      • We currently have 130,000 Reddit subscribers. Subscriber counte increases 0.5% per week.
      • 300,000 views per week
      • Needs a regular stream of news. App and extension releases are good to talk about.
      • Mods can pin posts to the top of the feed - releases, guadec, fundraiser, etc
  • ACTION: Allan to create a ticket to agree on team goals
  • ACTION: Allan to start posting a guidelines and suggestions doc and invite people to contribute
    • Things to include: a guide for creating screenshots
  • Anything we can do to recruit volunteers to this team?
    • Victoria did a call for volunteers already
    • ACTION: Allan to sketch out an onboarding guide
      • First steps: hang out in #engagement:gnome.org, #socials:gnome.org
  • Promote the team amongst the developer community - encourage them to reach out for feedback and help with their blog posts.
  • Promote app releases - circle apps esp. - helps to give us more things to talk about. Look for news outside of the main releases.
  • A “newsworthy” GitLab label that we can watch?
