Disable/mute screenshot sound

I’ve looked at two recent-ish posts on this subject ( Remove popup and sound when taking a screenshot in gnome extension and How to mute the screnshot shutter sound? ) but neither are helpful – one is doing the classic “what you want is wrong” (ironic for a linux forum) and the other tried to help but it didn’t work for me (touching an empty custom sound file).

I just want to mute the screenshot sound, like I can do pretty much anywhere else. I don’t want any notification sounds usually, but I certainly never want a horribly-loud shutter sound whenever I take a screenshot – it’s annoying and useless. This isn’t a japanese phone; it should be configurable. Make me write “I want my computer to be able to have keyloggers on it” or something idc, I have much larger problems if that’s on my device than someone taking screenshots (like, ya know, actually logging keystrokes or exfiltrating data, neither of which would get a notification or sound).

Anyway, outside of my rant: does anyone have ideas for this? I’m on latest gnome/wayland.

I just tested the method from How to mute the screnshot shutter sound? - #5 by skeller again and it still works here. Did you follow all the steps from that post or did you just create the file?

I touched both the file and that folder after the file; did you restart the session a different way? I can try logging out/in

I did not have to restart the session. Did you change the alert sounds?
