Disable alternate character key?

I don’t use an alternate characters key, and I don’t want one of my modifier keys taken up by a feature I don’t use that seems to override the actual use of the key. Is there a way to just disable this feature? Or should I just assign it to the key I use the least and deal with it?

If you’re using GNOME 50, you can open the Settings app. Select Keyboard in the side panel. Click Alternate Characters Key and change it to None.
