SSL has to be disabled, except for that I don’t see anything wrong. I seem to remember seeing someone else having issues with LimeChat connecting to gimp a while ago. Not sure if registering your nick is required at this time, but I would expect that to return a message if that is the case.
It doesn’t have to be disabled, but the certificate verification must be (i.e. you can use SSL, but don’t validate the cert because the domains won’t match).
That’s indeed a quite long-running problem now on GIMPNet. I know admins are regularly coming back on searching for a solution to fix this, but I think time is missing (everyone being a volunteer).
In the meantime, we do with it. We use IRC for public discussions anyway and don’t share over-sensitive information through it.
@Jehan I’m not so worried about confidential info - I’d file on gitlab.gnome.org and check the sensitive info checkbox. I just prefer all my internet interactions to be SSL.
Since it’s a known issue that isn’t likely to be resolved soon, I’ll just post here if that’s okay.
