Button for location entry in files open dialog

I think there should be a button or right click menu to show location entry in open file dialog.
i know i can press ctrl+L but there should be a way to do it with a mouse also.

Of which file dialog are we talking? The old one from GTK or the new from Nautilus?

Because with the new dialog from Nautilus, you should be able to click on an empty part of the pathbar to switch it to input mode, like you can in the file manager itself.

i’m not sure

I’m running gnome on mint to test it out. and i get this one there.

can’t find any setting in gnome to change it either.

not able to click here to get location entry

On latest fedora (running in a VM) i get this one. i can click location entry here to enter path

The dialog of the first image is the old one by GTK. The one from the second image is the one from Nautilus.

The new dialog of Nautilus was introduced in GNOME 47. If I’m right, the package base of Linux Mint does not provide this or a newer version, so it’s not available there.

Otherwise, which file chooser is used would depend on the configuration of the desktop portals. But if you use GNOME 47 or later it should use Nautilus by default.

Okey.
i’m coming from windows programming so was wondering how apps in linux used system dialogs :stuck_out_tongue:
