Board of Directors resignation & thanks to Karen Sandler

Dear GNOME community,

We would like to inform the members of the GNOME Foundation that regrettably, Karen Sandler resigned from the Board of Directors last month. This is due to lack of additional time available to dedicate to the Board’s increased operational responsibilities following recent staffing changes.

The Board of Directors would like to offer our sincere thanks to Karen for her support and advice since her election last year, for her ongoing pro bono legal advice to the Foundation, and for everything else she does to support the wider Free and Open Source Software movement in her work as the Executive Director at Software Freedom Conservancy (SFC).

Per the bylaws, in the event of a vacancy created by the resignation of a director, the Board may appoint a replacement director to fill the vacancy for the remainder of that term. Karen was elected to her two year term in June 2024, so the Board will consider whether to make an appointment of a new director to serve until the elections in June 2026.

Many Thanks,
Rob
Vice President, GNOME Foundation

Thank you @karen for all of the insight, support, and knowledge you have shared with the Foundation! I was lucky to serve on the board alongside you, and I wish you all the best as you continue to rock it as ED at the SFC.

Thanks for your kind words! While I mentioned in my candidacy the time I could give was limited and I can’t add more at this time, I am very sad to have to step down in the middle of the term. I look forward to continuing to help out in other ways, including pro bono legal advice!!
