Back navigation does not remember directory history in remote locations

When I connect to a remote location over sftp or smb, the back navigation button does not go to the last directory I was in. Example: I start in sftp://server/a. Then, I browse to sftp://server/a/b by clicking on directory b. Then, I browse to sftp://server/a/b/c by clicking on directory c. If I now click the back button, Files does not go back to sftp://server/a/b but to some other location. Sometimes it is sftp://server/a, sometimes it is even a different remote location I browsed earlier.

I also observed that the location bar does not update if I browse through the directories. So even after clicking on b the location bar shows sftp://server/a.

Does anyone have an idea of what’s going wrong?

Hi.

That’s certainly a bug.

It’s difficult to figure out why this bug is happening to you without more detailed information like software version and the exact steps you take to open the remote location.

I suggest going to the issue tracker to file a new issue, following the instructions of the “Bug” description template. Issues · GNOME / Files · GitLab

Thanks. I just didn’t want to spam the issue tracker too fast  For future reference: gitlab issue
