Alternative graphical layout in GTK3 Tree View , or alternatives?

Dear all,

I’m looking for an alternative way to display a hierarchical data-set. Basically with the idea to show data of children horizontal instead of vertically as in default GTK3 TreeView.

The current use of TreeView, using the C-api, looks like:

So far, so hoopy, that works pretty well. However, what I would like as layout, compared to the existing GTK3 default layout:

An alignment of data columns isn’t a requirement for this.

So, my questions to your expert advice, - and meaculpa if I overlooked the obvious,

  • requires or is best/easiest achieved with a custom cell renderer ?
  • doesn’t work in GTK3, but in GTK4 ?
  • use other widget instead of TreeView (or the GTK4 follow-on) ?

TIA for any insights, much appreciated, my thanks for your time,
best regards
Fred

Hi,

In Gtk4 there is the Gtk.ListView widget that can be made horizontal.
I used it with a simple flat list to implement a scrollable tabbed headerbar, but don’t know how it will look like when using a hierarchical tree like in your example. For sure columns won’t be supported.
