Add “Image width and height" as possible columns to display

Add a column that would display the resolution information (width x height) for image files as well as video files, or possibly as 2 columns witdh and height.

That request was discussed recently : Adding "Image resolution" to the file attributes to show as a column This report has been automaticaly closed “45 days after the last reply”… but the need for this information is still there. Here are some edited quotes out of that thread :

Seeing image resolution at a glance is widely relevant across many different situations, for instance:

  • Quickly seeing if a certain file has a desired resolution, without having to open it in another application or without needing to: open explorer at path > highlight image > right click > Properties > Image
  • Viewing a folder with hundreds of images and wanting to sort them by size, or make sure they are the same size, and so on
  • Working with image files that aren’t photos, where it’s often more relevant to view or sort by pixel dimensions
  • More broadly, virtually any file management when working with photography, graphic design or the like stands to benefit immensely.

Nb : There was a time when Nautilus supported that, just like Windows Explorer and MacOS Finder.

As a paper press editor, i need to see images resolution at a single global glance to know which one i can use or not in a layout.

When i edit a website, i need also to see images widths and heights.

Is there another way to achieve this in nautilus without too many clicks and waits ?

Nautilus itself uses extensions to even show the dimensions in properties, so the answer is probably an extension.

Well. The nautilus-column extension that enabled this and much more column choices hasnt updated its code for many years.
I managed to have it work until ubuntu 22.04 (see how : Not available in Ubuntu 22.04 · Issue #20 · atareao/nautilus-columns · GitHub ) but i cant anymore for 24.04.
Is there another extension i’m not aware of, that would be of any help to see image sizes in nautilus file lists ?
